John is one of Ireland’s leading business figures having successfully led Bord Gais for over five years during which time he increased revenues and profits while modernizing all aspects of its operations, client relations and corporate culture. His career in the energy sector stands out for its unique combination of international development of energy assets and strategic leadership. John’s career also demonstrates his ability to straddle the demands of dealing with the public and private sectors so that leadership, funding and management make high profile projects viable for all parties.
John’s leadership of Amarenco is a natural progression for his skillset. His deep understanding of both the renewable energy sector itself and the correct deployment of both capital and technology make Amarenco a leading green investment.
Alain has worked more than 15 years in developing, building and investing in green infrastructure assets (solar PV, wind, biomass, and water). He was instrumental in the establishment and development of over €10bn of green infrastructure investments in Asia, Africa, North America and Europe. Alain was previously COO at Investricity, CEO of SOLON (France & Africa), General Manager of Samsung C&T Green Energy Division (North America, Asia and Europe) and worked at GDF Suez in various functions (business development, project management, Business Unit Manager) and in more than 60 countries. Alain holds an MBA from INSEAD and a Master’s degree in Water & Environmental Sciences (ENGEES).
Nick Howard has more than 20 years of experience in establishing & raising finance for renewable energy & infrastructure businesses. Prior to joining Amarenco, he was CFO at Investricity. He spent 5 years prior to that with NTR plc during which time he was instrumental in the establishment & financing of NTR’s US biofuels business. In his earlier career, he spent 11 years with Standard Bank, founding its PF group based in London and closing numerous transactions in sub-Saharan Africa, including leading the establishment of the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund in partnership with the UK’s DfID. He has a BSc (Edinburgh), ACCA Diploma, and MBA (Henley).
Aoife is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and trained in KPMG in Dublin and spent 8 years in total with KPMG, most recently in London as an Associate Director in their Deal Advisory team supporting private equity clients in significant M&A activity, while also being seconded to several clients for fixed term projects, including Sky plc and Berkeley Group Holdings. Aoife joined Amarenco in 2016 as Group Accountant and was promoted to Head of Finance in 2017.
